Lincs Wold Railway - 1940s weekend

The Lincolnshire Wolds Railway in conjunction with the villages of North Thoresby and Fulstow invite you to take a nostalgic step back in time and experience the 1940's in a spectacular two-day community event. Battle of Britain Hurricane fighter pilot Squadron Leader Douglas Nicholls DFC will formally open the event at 10.30 am on the Saturday at Ludborough. Park your car at Ludborough Station and take a ride on vintage steam trains to North Thoresby. Travel by vintage buses from the station to both North Thoresby and Fulstow villages where various 1940's themes are taking place. The Ludborough Station theme commemorates the "70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain" with a MkII Spitfire on the ground awaiting the call to "scramble". The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will be attending the event on both days. North Thoresby portrays village life in the 1940's whilst Fulstow has a "Farming at War" theme. Military re-enactment Groups will provide a fascinating look back to the time when the freedom of Britain was threatened and the villages will portray the steadfast British spirit shown during turbulent times. See displays of vintage military vehicles, 1940's exhibitions, home made cakes, craft stalls, sample war-time food and much more.
