Behaviour, uniforms and the law
There are no limitations regarding the wearing of WW2 uniforms, or insignia. The views of many Australians, including some veterans, are usually ambivalent towards Germans or Italians, including Waffen-SS. No conflict, or drama has ever occurred. The fact that there is no active and open "neo-nazi" movement, the relatively high profile of reenactors and ties with vets, the tolerance of the public all combine to help keep WW2 reenacting a positive and conflict free past time.Uniforms don't draw much attention from the public or Law.
Firearms laws
Firearms Laws are partly national, partly state. Working automatics are illegal except for Armourer Licence. Same applies to semi automatics. Bolt action live firers are OK to use for hunting, range shooting etc. and with blanks at events. There are certain states that allow "reenactor permits", which allow the holder to use a bolt action rifles for reenactment events only. Deactivated firearms and replicas basically fall into the same category as the real counterpart, except that non-firing semi-automatic and automatics can be held with a collectors licence. Customs have very strict limitations upon what can be brought in. Firearms laws differ from state to state, but not greatly. Pistols require a special licence which are extremely limited.As always, when you're in a foreign country for a reenactment, listen to the natives and follow their advice. And do not draw unnecessary attention to yourself and follow common sense.
